Jonny Carkin started his political career in 2008 as a field organizer on a coordinated state legislative campaign. Since then he has managed four state legislative campaigns and worked as an attaché for the Senate Minority Caucus during the 2009, 2010 and 2011 Idaho legislative sessions.
Before joining Hilltop, Jonny worked for Planned Parenthood Votes Northwest. During his tenure at PPVNW, Jonny worked on building their grassroots organization, headed the volunteer program, oversaw programing and community outreach, and helped to implement various independent expenditure campaigns.
Jonny also served as deputy field manager for the Respect ABQ Women Campaign, helping to successfully defeat a ballot measure that would have placed sever restrictions on abortion access in Albuquerque, and managed the Fair Pocatello campaign which preserved Pocatello, Idaho’s non-discrimination ordinance.
Jonny is a firm believer in community involvement and civic engagement, especially at the local and state levels. He received a BA in Political Science with an emphasis in Public Law and Political Philosophy and a BA in Philosophy in 2009 from Boise State University.
Originally from New Hampshire, Jonny moved out west in his early teens and eventually settled in Boise in 2002, where he currently lives with his partner Micaela and son Felix. He is an avid skier and loves Idaho’s outdoors.
