Janelle Erickson is a public affairs professional with over 20 years of experience in federal and local government, political campaigns and corporate communications.
Most recently, Janelle worked with the Los Angeles Unified School District as a Senior Executive Director where she served as a consultant to the newly appointed superintendent overseeing communications and stakeholder engagement.
She previously served as the Executive Director of a not-for-profit, the Los Angeles Unified Advisory Task Force, that was created to help school district leadership accelerate the pace of change on a select set of issues—increasing school attendance, better utilizing its real estate portfolio, and increasing budget transparency and sustainability.
Prior to her work at the school district, Janelle led the public affairs team at Gap Inc. where she oversaw a global communications strategy to position the company as a leader in sustainability and corporate responsibility issues, and foster positive, long-lasting relationships with stakeholders.
Prior to joining Gap Inc., Janelle served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa, where she managed a large team of leaders driving the city’s legislative and policy strategy for transportation, education, and environmental issues, as well as federal and state relations. Prior to serving as Deputy Chief of Staff, Janelle served as Communications Director and Senior Press Secretary for the mayor’s office, and Communications Director for Los Angeles City Councilmember Wendy Greuel.
Janelle began her career working in the Office of Legislative Affairs at the White House for President William Clinton. As the Director for Communications and Events, Janelle worked closely with the communications team in developing the message strategy for legislative events, and coordinating with Congressional offices for all meetings, events, bill signings and domestic and international travel.
