Rebecca Kirszner Katz
Principal Rebecca Kirszner Katz
has spent the last decade working in local, state, and national
communications. Her experience spans the federal government,
political campaigns, and non-profit sector. Highlights of her work
include leading Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid’s War Room and
assisting with the planning and execution of the White House’s
communications strategy for Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s smooth path to
confirmation.
At Hilltop, Rebecca oversees
many of the firm’s strategic communications projects and is based in
New York City.

Experience:
- Outside Advisor to the White House on the Sotomayor
Nomination. Asked by the White House to assist with
communications for Judge Sotomayor’s confirmation process,
Rebecca organized aggressive communications strategy in key
states, helped with outreach to Senate offices, worked on rapid
response, and planned events to push back on attacks.
- In 2009, advised Bill de Blasio on his successful citywide Public Advocate campaign in New York City.
- Organized communications efforts for Project New West's 2009 Western Summit, the first-of-its-kind gathering of hundreds of federal, state, and local leaders and activists.
- Oversaw communications strategy for multi-million dollar pro-education reform campaign that successfully sought to improve and extend the mayoral control law for New York City’s 1.1 million school children.
- Helped with communications strategy for the successful 2008
campaigns of U.S. Senator Tom Udall and Missouri Attorney
General Chris Koster.
- Communications Director for Senate Democratic Leader Harry
Reid’s Senate Democratic Communications Center, which played a
key role in helping Democrats win back the Senate in 2006.
- Served as Pennsylvania Communications Director for America
Coming Together.
- Long history in Philadelphia politics, having worked for
both Representatives Chaka Fattah and Allyson Schwartz.
Rebecca received a Bachelor of Arts from Clark University and a
Master’s in Government Administration from the University of
Pennsylvania’s Fels Institute of Government, where she has also
taught graduate courses on congressional politics.
