Barrett Kaiser
Principal

A principal at Hilltop, Barrett Kaiser runs the Montana office as the firm’s Director of Western Operations. Barrett draws on more than a decade of political experience, including nearly 11 years as a top advisor to U.S. Senator Max Baucus, chairman of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee.

As a senior strategist and advisor to Baucus during two reelection campaigns – in 2002 and again in 2008 – Barrett helped develop an aggressive communications and messaging strategy that helped the senator win reelection overwhelmingly in both cases.

Experience:

• Highly regarded as a public relations expert and crisis manager, Barrett has assisted many federal, state, and local campaigns in Montana, including U.S. Senator Jon Tester’s dramatic upset over Conrad Burns in 2006.
  
  
• Barrett worked his way up through the ranks of the Baucus operation – including a 6-year run as Communications Director, speechwriter, and chief spokesman – and finished his tenure as Montana Chief of Staff in March of 2010.
  
  
• Barrett came to the Baucus office 1999 after graduating with a degree in Communication Studies from the University of Montana. Barrett started in the senior U.S. senator’s Washington, D.C., office as a Legislative Correspondent.

When not hip-deep into politics, you can find Barrett casting a fly on one of Montana’s famed trout streams. A former fishing guide who’s travelled the globe with a fly rod in hand, Barrett organized a Montana fly fishing excursion for President Barack Obama in 2009.

Barrett is a native of Denver, Colorado. He lives in Billings with his wife, Kari.
